2012 OKC Thanksgiving

Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County kids were surprised with an appearance by NBA All-Star and Oklahoma City Thunder Guard, Russell Westbrook!  More than 400 people attended the Club’s 12th annual Thanksgiving Dinner when Westbrook surprised Club members and their families.  The dinner was hosted by the Russell Westbrook Why Not? Foundation in partnership with the United Way of Central Oklahoma’s Emerging Leaders.

“Russell’s generosity and the generosity of everyone involved is the true meaning of Thanksgiving,” said Jane Sutter, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County.  “Many of our kids come from low-income homes, and this dinner is a way for them to eat well and even take extra food home to have on Thanksgiving Day.  This year was extra special for the kids and they are truly grateful.  I saw it on their faces when Russell walked through the door!”

Westbrook attended the Boys & Girls Club growing up in South Central Los Angeles.

“The Boys & Girls Club has done a lot for me over the years,” said Westbrook.  “I’m just grateful that I’m now in a position to give back to the Club and to youth in Oklahoma City.”
